The MPL apprenticeship (Multi-Crew Pilot License) at the EFA enables the successful applicant
to be employed by the Lufthansa Group Company. These include Lufthansa Airline,
Lufthansa City Line and Austrian Airlines.
To gain access to the two year apprenticeship you have to attend and pass the basic occupation test (BU) and group qualification test (GQ) at the DLR in Hamburg.
Which is then followed by four education phases, which end with a Type rating.
Once this is passed, hardly anything will stop you from working for one of the mentioned Airlines above..

If the MPL selection at DLR in Hamburg doesn’t work out, you can still apply for the ATPL track at the European Flight Academy.

ATPL Pilot apprenticeship at the European Flight Academy
A successful graduation of the ATPL ( Airline Transport Pilot License) enables you to start a career at Eurowings as well as to be free to apply as a Co-Pilot on the free market.

To be approved in this way, you need to pass the basic-qualification test (BQ) and the Corporate Qualification (CQ) at Interpersonal in Hamburg.
The two year education program at the EFA ends with the Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC).
The graduating is followed by the Type Rating and you´l be able to work as a Co-Pilot.

ATPL apprenticeship at a private flight school
Another way leading in to the cockpit, is to train as a commercial pilot on a private flying school..
This usually ends with the so called frozen ATPL, which enables to work as a co-pilot.
Along the free market you may apply for various Airlines (such as Eurowings, Condor, Austrian, SWISS etc. and within the Lufthansa Group of course).
The duration of the training differs from school to school and also depends on your performance level. The training takes about 20 to 26 months in general.
It is possible to start at any time and almost instantly, a long and difficult selection process is obsolete.
A private flight school is a good alternative. Quite a substantial amount of pilots world wide have been walking up their career via this path. With your degree in your pocket you may be able to apply for Eurowings again, the Lufthansa Group and many other Airlines, even though you have been turned down during the selection process before having started your pilot training.
If you want to take this opportunity, we recommend you to have a very close look at various flight school first hand before you sign the apprenticeship contract.

How to apply ?
To gain access for the selection process by DLR or Interpersonal, you have to meet the following requirements:

  • a high school degree
  • fluent in english
  • fluent in german
  • at least 18 yrs of age
  • indefinite residence permit, including an unlimited work permit within the EU and Switzerland.

For the ATPL apprenticeship at the EFA you also need an aeromedical suitability examination
and eye test.

Whatever your decision may be, we at Vimana will support you all the way.
Here at Vimana you will find the suitable software and seminar for the DLR-Selection Process BU and GQ and for the BQ and GQ at Interpersonal.
All information you find HERE on our website.

We recommend you the Flight school AeronautX at Linz Airport (Austria), of whom we are in partnership with.
The apprenticeship there offers highest quality standards and competence paired with top modern equipment (such as flight simulators aircraft).
Up to now it is unique in the German speaking area, that the complete selection- and screening preparation is already fully integrated in the training program.
With a degree from AeronautX you are perfectly prepared for the usual selection schemes by various Airlines.

We will happily advise you on finding the suitable flight school!

Basic requirements

Prospect pilots should fulfil the following characteristics such as: Reliability, honesty, punctuality, accuracy, as well as prudence.
A number of softskills and social competence, should also be in your repertory for your later occupation. Among team spirit, assertiveness and critical faculties you should be a responsible and rule conscious person.

Furthermore the job requires a certain fitness and stamina. This has to be approved by a special aeromedical examination, usually carried out by an aviation physician.
Applicants who feel normal and healthy enough and don’t suffer from severe illness should have no problem to receive the medical certificate.
However, sadly, even a tiny red / green visual impairment could exclude the applicant from a pilot career.
To start the apprenticeship as a pilot, a leaving cert is sufficient. Almost every Airline however nowadays require a high school degree.
You can identify yourself with these points? Congratulations, basically you’re suitable for the job as a pilot.
Every Airline has their own requirements on top of it for their candidates.

21yr. old Paul went to Vimana to prepare for an interview- training for SWISS. This is his testimonial:

After a failed job interview at Lufthansa, I wanted to do everything to prepare for my interview at SWISS, so I chose to have an interview training at Vimana in Regensburg.

The training took place in a modern building in Regensburg. After a warm welcome by the team  consistent of a pilot and a psychologist, I was briefed about the procedure regarding the interview-training.
First I would have an interview authentic to the one by SWISS.
I was asked to consider sitting in Zurich talking to the committee of SWISS in front of me.
The duration of the interview would depend on my performance in answering  the questions.
This would be followed up by a review to analyse my answers and body language and overall performance.

The interview:
After the briefing I had to wait a short moment outside.
The waiting time and the authentic set up made me quite nervous and created a real tension.
A camera was set up to analyse my performance later in detail, which only made my tension grow.
When I was asked to return into the room, the team had already taken their parts of the SWISS committee.
I was confronted with all sorts of questions about my persona, up to how a digital camera works, which, I couldn’t answer. Then I was asked why I failed the Lufthansa selection.
I told them about my weaknesses, in English at that time. But I had done my homework in terms of taking English classes and by making an authentic pilot announcement, I easily passed their persisting questions.

Debriefing:
After the interview-training I had to wait out side of the room once more.
So that the Vimana team was able to reflect on my performance.
When I was called back in, instantly all the tension was gone.
In a very relaxed atmosphere we analysed my interview performance.
Apart from my answers, my body language was also part of the analysis.
The team of Vimana gave me a lot of useful tips and advices about my behaviour
during the interview and how to improve on it. Also I was explained what is hidden behind some of the questions, which are being asked.

Conclusion:
The interview training was a great experience and a prefect preparation, to present myself more authentic and with more self-confidence.
Vimana never gave me the feeling, that I was pushed into a certain direction or being formed into something. On the contrary, I did learn quite a lot about myself.
The input on the debriefing helped me along to improve on my weaknesses
and as to where to concentrate more on.
Thank you so much Vimana team!

And?  Well I didn’t get the job on SWISS, after all. Due to an eye weakness I failed the medical examination. I still wish all candidates best of luck on their aptitude-tests.
Vimana can only be recommended.
